Original Painting Information

Original painting: 50" x 31"

This was the final painting, the last one painted in the Pirates series. I painted it for Johnny, at his request.

Johnny, after having seen the other two pirates paintings I had painted and Johnny being the philanthropist that he is, is always looking for ways to give back to his community. Johnny saw this potential painting in his mind as an opportunity to create something tangible, duplicating a small limited number of signed prints, signed by Johnny from the original oil painting for purchase, the proceeds benefitting a number of Children’s Charities that he wished to raise money for and I of course was on board for this worthy cause.

Captain Jack Sparrow, this character was described as the irreverent trickster of dubious morality, the pirate master of self promotion and self interest. I really set out in this painting, hoping to capture those little idiosyncrasies that made the Captain the interesting character he was designed to be. I painted him in this fun, adventure loving swashbuckling pose depicting his mischievous grin, that gave us a little viewing window into this Captain’s childlike vulnerabilities, showcasing that distinct tenderness I believe I captured within the gleam of his eyes. My goal was in capturing that self assured aura that surrounded him, those colorful little idiosyncrasies that made the Captain so special to us all, as fans.

I would like to end this painting caption with this narrative from the movie, the scene where Captain Jack Sparrow is speaking to his father Captain Teague -

Cap. Jack: “What? You’ve seen it all, done it all. You Survived. That’s the trick, isn’t it? To Survive?”

Cap. Teague: “It’s not just about living forever, Jackie. The trick is living with yourself forever.”

~ How could you not love this character.
